I had a career in advertising for about 30 years, editing TV commercials. I loved the creativity and adrenaline rush from the fast pace and insane deadlines. To relieve stress from the day I would either drink a couple of glasses of wine or go for a run or take a hot yoga class. I really enjoyed the way I felt during and after the yoga classes. I found I got that same “runner’s high” I obtained on my long runs with less impact on my knees. After completing my first (and last) marathon in November 2005, I decided to run less and devote more energy to yoga, increasing my practice, to 4-5 times per week.
After several months of practicing, my muscles were leaner, longer, and stronger and my mind was calm and more focused. I was less stressed. What began as a way of staying healthy and fit soon transformed into devotion and a way of life. In 2005, I started yoga teacher training and over the years, worked towards my 500 hr. Yoga Teacher Certification. I would edit TV commercials by day and teach yoga early mornings and on weekends to achieve my ERYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher). I became even more intrigued with nutrition and its effect on the body. In 2010, I decided to go back to school and enrolled in a program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and in 2011, I received my Certification as a Holistic Health Coach. I started dreaming of a place I could build, where people could find yoga & nutrition under one roof. Later that same year, I got an abrupt wake-up call from the Universe and was let go from my editing job. I was stunned and scared but trusted the universe and knew it was time to stop dreaming and start doing.
In 2012 with the help of my family and my 401K, I opened BalancingEnergy Health & Yoga Center in Dallas, Texas. We built a great community over the 10 years in business offering yoga, infrared sauna sessions, and nutritional coaching. We sold the studio in 2021 and I launched BalancingEnergy Health & Yoga Wellness online in 2022. It’s been quite a journey but I’m ready for this chapter as I know the Universe guides and provides!
Everyone who knows me will tell you I’m very passionate about health, nutrition, and exercise but that wasn’t always the case. Growing up in the late ’60s and ’70s, I could have been the poster child for junk food, and my stomach and digestive tract, the epicenter for health, were in peril. It wasn’t until my 19th birthday when I eliminated all fried foods from my diet, that my gut and life improved tremendously. Could this have been a foreshadowing of what was to come? Unfortunately, it was short-lived. A few years following, I was inflicted with an acute intestinal problem that persisted for over a month. Reluctantly, and at my doctor’s suggestion (a very alternative suggestion for the time) I removed all dairy products from my diet for a weekend. To my surprise, I was 95% better. To this day, I only consume very small amounts of dairy, as I learned my digestive tract can’t tolerate it. Through my own experimentation of elimination, I gained knowledge of what my body liked and what it didn’t like. That state of awareness gave me the wisdom to make better choices for my body. It gave me the power to mobilize in the right direction and has helped me on my path today as a Health Coach. Everyone’s body is different and has specific needs. One person’s food is another person’s poison. That’s why I take a bio-individual approach when it comes to coaching. I love educating people and helping them connect with their gut/intuition.
