I had a career in advertising for about 30 years, editing TV commercials. I loved the creativity and adrenaline rush from the fast pace and insane deadlines. To relieve stress from the day I would either drink a couple of glasses of wine or go for a run or take a hot yoga class. I really enjoyed the way I felt during and after the yoga classes. I found I got that same “runner’s high” I obtained on my long runs with less impact on my knees. After completing my first (and last) marathon in November 2005, I decided to run less and devote more energy to yoga, increasing my practice, to 4-5 times per week.
After several months of practicing, my muscles were leaner, longer, and stronger and my mind was calm and more focused. I was less stressed. What began as a way of staying healthy and fit soon transformed into devotion and a way of life. In 2005, I started yoga teacher training and over the years, worked towards my 500 hr. Yoga Teacher Certification. I would edit TV commercials by day and teach yoga early mornings and on weekends to achieve my ERYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher). I became even more intrigued with nutrition and its effect on the body. In 2010, I decided to go back to school and enrolled in a program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and in 2011, I received my Certification as a Holistic Health Coach. I started dreaming of a place I could build, where people could find yoga & nutrition under one roof. Later that same year, I got an abrupt wake-up call from the Universe and was let go from my editing job. I was stunned and scared but trusted the universe and knew it was time to stop dreaming and start doing.
In 2012 with the help of my family and my 401K, I opened BalancingEnergy Health & Yoga Center in Dallas, Texas. We built a great community over the 10 years in business offering yoga, infrared sauna sessions, and nutritional coaching. We sold the studio in 2021 and I launched BalancingEnergy Health & Yoga Wellness online in 2022. It’s been quite a journey but I’m ready for this chapter as I know the Universe guides and provides!
I’m very passionate about health, nutrition, and exercise but that wasn’t always the case. Growing up in the late 60’s and 70’s, I could have been the poster child for junk food and my gut and digestive tract (the epicenter for health) were being abused. At 19 years young my indigestion was so dreadful, I decided to eliminate all fried foods from my diet. It helped my gut but unfortunately, I also had problems digesting dairy. In my late 20’s a doctor suggested I remove all dairy from my diet and even though it was challenging, I was amazed at how much better I felt. No more bloat, pain and running to the bathroom.
As the years went by, my diet wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t the healthiest, either. Fast forward to my mid 40’s and early 50’s and along comes the stages of menopause with fluctuating hormones and severe mood swings. Let me preface by saying, my experience with perimenopausal symptoms were uncomfortable, but it wasn’t as severe as what many women go through with hot flashes, incontinence, insomnia, anxiety/depression, etc. I intuitively felt I could make things better by changing my diet, lifestyle, even my exercise routine. Today I feel better then I did in my 20’s. My biological age is that of a 46 year old!
Since becoming certified in advanced Hormone Health I’ve learned that there is a complex link between gut health and hormones- and there are many studies to prove it. With my experience as a Nutritional Health Coach and advanced Hormone Health, my goal is to teach and empower you to make better choices for your body. Taking control of your health and lifestyle can reverse the effects of illness and restore your body to its optimal health.
