Benefits of Drinking Turmeric Tonic Daily

Summertime in Traditional Chinese Medicine is the most yang time of year and is ruled by fire. The summer season is associated with the heart and the small intestine in the body.

When the fire element is unbalanced or in disharmony, depression, insomnia, and digestive issues may arise. When we are properly balanced, the heart circulates oxygen-rich blood throughout the body and assures proper assimilation in the beginning stages of digestion in the small intestine. Mental acuity is associated with the heart therefore memory, thought processes, and emotional well-being are also attributed to the heart and the fire element. If I have any issue with insomnia or digestion, drinking turmeric tonic daily can get me back in balance.

This juice not only tastes great but it’s easy to whip up. It also does amazing things to support overall good health and is loaded with compounds that many believe support gentle detoxification. One particular component of turmeric is curcumin.

What is Curcumin?

Curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory that has been studied for its ability to prevent premature aging, and reduce depression. It also offers natural support to the body on wound healing, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, cystic fibrosis, blood sugar, and acts as a painkiller, among other things.

About The Ingredients:

  • Ginger is a powerful antioxidant that increases circulation and may reduce muscle pain and soreness.
  • Coconut water has some beneficial nutrients like electrolytes, potassium, calcium, and magnesium  making it a great hydrating drink. I use Vita Coco as it doesn’t have any additives/preservatives.
  • Lemon is rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that assists with detoxification and can help with digestion.
  • Oranges, are low in calories but full of nutrients, they promote clear, healthy skin and can help to lower our risk for many diseases. “Orange strengthens your emotional body, encouraging a general feeling of joy, well-being, and cheerfulness”. The Yun Kim
  • Raw organic honey is a natural energy source and antioxidant powerhouse. Studies have found that raw honey can activate hormones that suppress the appetite.
  • Unrefined sea salt contains 84 minerals that support adrenal function, help regulate blood volume and blood pressure, and assist with the delivery of nutrients to cells. It also reduces adrenaline levels and supports overall metabolic health.
  • Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory without the worrisome side effects that its pharmaceutical counterparts bring to the table. It offers natural support to the body in dealing with arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and even cystic fibrosis.

The active compound in turmeric – curcumin – is fat-soluble and is best absorbed when taken with a meal or black pepper. Adding black pepper to turmeric enhances curcumin’s bioavailability by 1,000 times, due to black pepper’s hot property called piperine.
